During the Civil War the Eastern Panhandle was bitterly fought over! Southern Generals who visited the house were Turner Ashby, J.E.B. Stuart, Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, and Robert E. Lee. Northern Generals Philip Sheridan and Ulysses S. Grant met in the dining room on Sept. 17, 1864 to plan The Shenandoah Valley Campaign. Located just six miles west of Harpers Ferry in the Historic District, The Carriage Inn is centrally located so that travelers can easily access the many things there are to do: water sports, zip lining, hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, wineries, a local distillery, Civil War Battlefields, antique shops and more! Excellent local restaurants and micro-breweries are within easy walking distance or a quick drive from the Inn!
